Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure wherein saline or silicone implants are placed underneath the breast tissues to improve their shape, size, and appearance. As the name suggests, breast augmentation is primarily concerned with helping you achieve the desired cup size. If you’re experiencing sagging issues due to age, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, you can also opt for a breast lift for improved results. Breast augmentation is currently one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the United States.

Breast lift and breast augmentation are two distinct surgical procedures that are performed to address different concerns related to the appearance of the breasts.
Breast Lift:
Purpose: A breast lift is performed to address sagging or drooping breasts that have lost their firmness and youthful shape due to factors like pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, weight fluctuations, or genetics.
Procedure: During a breast lift, excess skin is removed, and the breast tissue is reshaped and repositioned to create a more youthful and perky appearance. The nipple and areola may also be repositioned if necessary.
Implants: Breast implants are not typically used in a breast lift procedure. The primary goal is to reshape and lift the existing breast tissue.
Breast Augmentation:
Purpose: Breast augmentation is performed to increase the size and volume of the breasts. It is usually chosen by individuals who desire larger or fuller breasts or have lost breast volume due to pregnancy or weight loss.
Procedure: In breast augmentation, implants (silicone or saline) are surgically placed behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle to add volume and create a fuller appearance.
Lift: While breast augmentation primarily focuses on increasing breast size, it may provide a slight lift in some cases, especially when the implant is placed beneath the chest muscle. However, it is not a primary procedure for breastlifting.

An en bloc capsulectomy is the removal of the capsule and scar tissue surrounding along with the implant, or “en bloc.” The procedure may be necessary in cases of a ruptured implant, capsular contracture, or other problems affecting the look or comfort of breast implants.
A total capsulectomy is the removal of the implant and the surrounding scar tissue or capsule. It does not necessarily mean the surgeon will remove the breast implant within the capsule in an “en bloc” procedure.
